About the Language :
In China, the Chinese language is part of the Sino-Tibetan family of languages, which includes a variety of languages widely spoken in China. Mandarin, Wu, Yue, and Min are its main dialects, followed by many regional dialects.
History of the Language :
China has been scripting for no less than 6,000 years and has the oldest scripted language in the world. Turtle shells dating back to the Shang dynasty (1766-1123 BC) have been found to contain Chinese characters, showing that the written language has been around for more than 3,000 years.
Origin of the Language :
A group of languages descended from Proto-Sino-Tibetan includes Chinese, which is part of the Sino-Tibetan language family. Researchers and scholars are engaged in an active debate regarding the relationship between Chinese and other Sino-Tibetan languages, as well as in attempting to reconstruct Proto-Sino-Tibetan. In the later part of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1444), Mandarin was the language of the ruling class. Beijing became China's capital after the Ming Dynasty and remained so in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912).
