Origin of the Language :
A number of Dutch dialects have emerged since the 16th century, most of which are descended from Brabantian. The Standard Dutch language has not changed significantly since this time. The Dutch language is derived from Low Franconian, the Western Frankish language, which was restructured around 700 CE through contact with speakers of North Sea Germanic in the historical regions of Flanders and Holland. Dutch, along with French and German, is one of Belgium's 3 official languages.
